Steven Mobley of Azle pursuing degree in criminal justice at HPU

2013 Oct 25

Howard Payne University in Brownwood celebrates a decade of preparing students for careers in the criminal justice field this year, and Steven Mobley, a senior from Azle, is one of approximately 80 students enrolled in the criminal justice program for the fall 2013 semester.

In 2003, Lynn Humeniuk, director of the program, wrote the criminal justice curriculum for the university. The program started with only 10 students, but quickly grew to become one of the university's most popular academic offerings.

"Our criminal justice program is unique in that it is academically competitive to those of much larger universities, while being presented in the caring Christian environment for which HPU is well known," Humeniuk said.

Those interested in pursuing a degree in criminal justice or learning more about any of the more than 100 majors, minors and pre-professional programs offered at Howard Payne University, may contact HPU's Office of Admission by phone at (800) 880-4478 or (325) 649-8020, or via e-mail at enroll@hputx.edu. Founded in 1889, Howard Payne University is a Christ-centered academic community dedicated to excellence by developing and equipping the whole person for intellectual inquiry, personal and professional integrity, and service to God and humanity.

Located in Brownwood, Texas, HPU offers a full array of undergraduate programs and a limited number of graduate programs in a traditional residential academic community. The university also offers selected undergraduate and graduate course work by electronic means and at extended learning centers in El Paso, Texas, and New Braunfels, Texas. HPU maintains a low student-to-faculty ratio, which contributes to the university's reputation of being "a place where everybody is somebody."
